Ms. Andrea Lee - Named GMS Teacher of the Year!

7th Grade Civics - Mock Trial Project Information and Needs:

The seventh grade will be preparing for a mock trial that will occure just prior to spring break. We are in need of the community’s help. To begin our preparation we would like to have a panel come in to speak to the students about what it is like to be involved in a trial. We are looking for a lawyer, a judge, and someone who has served on a case as a jury member. Additionally we would like parent volunteers to assist the students in their trial preparations, these volunteers will be needed any time from March 27th – April 2nd .
If anyone is interested please contact Ms. Clouser (aclouser@ycsd.york.va.us) or Mrs. Martin (jmartin@ycsd.york.va.us). Ms. Clouser or Mrs. Martin will contact you with further information.

Yearbook Candids
To make a great yearbook we need candid shots from a variety of sources--games, clubs, dances, etc. We have a very energetic yearbook group, but they would love to have input from you, the parents, who also attend school events. If you have a few pictures that you think would like to share with the possibility of publication in the yearbook please send them to the following internet address. This site is for uploading pictures only. You will not be able to see the work in progress. Thank you in advance for all that you do!

Students Enjoy New Spirit Park! -
The Spirit Park gives students an opportunity to relax and bond with their Grafton peers. We would like each student to take advantage of the Spirit Park. Please read and follow the list of expectations below. We hope you will enjoy the Spirit Park.

1. Let’s keep the Spirit Park clean. Please eat inside the cafeteria. Throw
away all trash before going outside.

2. Please stay inside the perimeter of the benches. Do not horseplay
around the benches.

3. The benches are for sitting. Do not vandalize the benches.

4. Enjoying the scenery, respect the trees by not touching them.

5. Respect the classes that are in session near the park. Please refrain from tapping on the windows or doors.

6. Remember, it is your responsibility to be on time to your next class. If you
are tardy to class on several occasions, Spirit Park privileges can be
taken away.

TARDY POLICY
The faculty and staff at Grafton want all students to be on time for every class. By being on time, the student is more prepared to learn and does not miss instructional material for that day. This year’s tardy policy is different than last years. Please read the information below carefully and share this information with your son or daughter.
The classroom tardy policy is a semester policy and starts over at the beginning of second semester. The following list of offenses and actions are for unexcused tardies only during the seven period instructional day.
1st Tardy - Teacher informs student and notes tardy in attendance book
2nd Tardy - Teacher makes parental contact by phone or mail.
3rd Tardy - Teacher makes parental contact by phone or mail.
4th Tardy - Administrator assigns after school detention. A copy of disciplinary infraction is mailed home.
5th Tardy - Student is assigned to ATS, an administrator contacts parent, and disciplinary infraction is mailed home.
Note: Additional tardy infractions will result in suspension from school and a conference with parent/s will be held before student can return to school. When persistent problems occur, parents may be asked to come to school and shadow their child for a day.

Lost Textbook Policies: Please read this link for specific information about lost textbook policies.

Fire Lane is a 'No Parking' Zone

The fire lane in front of our school is marked with yellow paint and/or "No Parking: Fire Lane" signs. The fire lane provides rescue vehicles with unencumbered access to our school in the event of an emergency. Driver-attended school buses use these lanes only for student pick-up and drop-off.

Unauthorized parking in a fire lane is a violation of the law and creates a potential safety hazard for students, staff and others visiting our school. Please do not park in the fire lane at any time.

Courtesy violation notices will be issued to illegally parked vehicles. Future violations can result in the issuance of a traffic summons for a violation of the Fire Code. Thank you for your cooperation in our efforts to ensure the safety of students, staff and visitors.
