Grafton Guidance

Welcome to the 2006 Summer Residential Governor's Schools application process!
Please review the information carefully and speak with your student's guidance counselor to insure that they meet all division and state deadlines! All parts of the application are available at the following Web site: www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Instruction/Govschools/SRGS

Your application has information sheets that the student should give to the two teachers whom they are asking to provide recommendations and to the guidance office for other data. All applications must be printed and signed by the student and parent in order to be considered.

The Summer Residential School for Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) as well as the Governor's Foreign Language Academies has separate applications and timelines. The application for the Visual and Performing Arts program is available at the Web site provided above. The 2006 Foreign Language application is available at the following Web site:
www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Instruction/Language/GAindex.html.

Please note that we are accepting applications from students to attend the following 2006 Summer Governor’s Program:

Humanities
Math, Science and Technology
Life Sciences & Medicine
NASA/Mentorship
Agriculture
VIMS/Virginia Institute of Marine Science-Mentorship
Foreign Language Academies-Immersion in one of 4 different languages: Spanish, German, Latin, French, Japanese and Russian

Students must be academically talented and currently be a sophomore or junior. This is a very competitive program. Students live on a college campus for 4 weeks. The Virginia Department of Education covers all costs including tuition, room and board. The application is available on line ONLY and must be typed or word processed, printed out and given to the guidance office before winter break. Please let your students know about this amazing opportunity and encourage them to come to guidance to talk with their counselor!

Thanks
