Name: Youth Conservation Corps 2008

Who is Eligible: 14-17 year olds (high school students)
Description: The primary purpose of the Virginia State Parks Youth Conservation Corps is twofold: 1)it is aimed at youth development, and 2)it is a cost-effective way to raise environmental awareness and strengthen stewardship of Virginia’s valuable natural resources. In essence, the program combines work experience, education and life skills development within the framework of environmental and community service.

Name: Introduction to Engineering 2008

Who is Eligible: Rising Juniors & Rising Seniors (women and minorities strongly encouraged)
Description: The program is structured to maximize the student’s stay at the university. The program format includes daily participation in introductory engineering course work, seminars on college admissions and financial aid, demonstrations, experiments and departmental and university tours. Faculty members and graduate students from various departments give lectures and answer questions relating to studies and careers in the different engineering disciplines.
