Name:  West Point’s Annual Summer Leaders Seminar-United States Military Academy

Deadline:  March 31, 2008

 

Who is Eligible:  Juniors 1)in the top fifth of their high school class, 2)pursuing a college-preparatory curriculum, 3)strong PSAT scores, and 4)demonstrated leadership potential by participation, election/selection to office, and honors earned in organized athletic and extracurricular activities   

 

Description:  Provides high school juniors the exciting opportunity to gain a better understanding of the academic, physical, and leadership-development programs at a service academy that features small classes , a caring faculty, professional career preparation, and a foundation for future graduate study.

Name:  VCU Acceleration Program

Deadline:  April 15, 2008      

 

Who is Eligible:  Incoming Freshmen to VCU with an interest in pre-health sciences

 

Description:  The VCU Acceleration Program is offered to incoming, accepted VCU Freshmen with an interest in the pre-health sciences and is designed to expose students to pre-health careers through summer enrichment programs, job shadowing, internship opportunities and test-taking skills. Students are required to commit to the program throughout the four years of their undergraduate degree.  The ultimate goal of the program is to make you a more competitive applicant to a professional health science program of your choice after graduation.

Name: STAR-Science Training and Research Program

Deadline:  May 7, 2008

 

Who is Eligible:  Rising 11th graders from disadvantaged backgrounds

 

Description:  The STAR Program is a pre-collegiate summer enrichment program for rising 11th grade students from disadvantaged backgrounds.  Because such students are of the unaware of the rich and varied opportunities available to them in the sciences, this unique program is designed to introduce students to the world of science, research, and technology.

Participants also have the opportunity to conduct research with the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), NASA, and the Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.

Name:  Science, Engineering and Architecture Enrichment Program at Clemson University

Who is Eligible:  Gifted Middle and High School Students

 

Description:  This program is designed to stimulate interest in the basic sciences and to foster insight and creativity in the fields of science and architecture.  In, addition, students will participate in a variety of social and cultural activities that will give them a taste of life as a Clemson student.

Name:  ODU-Say YES (Your Education Solution) to College

Deadline:  May 1, 2008

 

Who is Eligible:  Current high school sophomores, juniors, seniors pursing an Advanced Studies, Standard, or Modified Standard Diploma, or students of high school of high school age seeking a GED.  Participation is limited to 50 students.  Parents are encouraged to attend as well.

 

Description:  Enrollment is postsecondary education is steadily increasing for students with disabilities.  Yet many students are not adequately prepared to deal with the academic and social demands of this environment.  Say YES to College is designed to ease the transition from high school to college.

Participants will: meet other students with disabilities, hear a variety of speakers, experience a taste of life in dormitory setting, and connect with other high school students
