selected. You may elect to be a soldier writing home, the journalist, or
photographer taking the picture, someone in the photograph receiving a letter
from home, a fellow soldier writing home about a friend, etc.
AUDIENCE: The audience is the recipient, someone
reading the letter.
FORMAT: During the Vietnam Conflict, letter writing
was the most prevalent mode of communication from soldiers. Your format will be a handwritten letter designed
to look its age.
TOPIC: Research facts about the events taking place
in the photograph you have selected. Include historically accurate information
in your letter
The Writing Task: Write a personal, handwritten
letter in which you assume the role of someone either in the picture or
connected to it. You must decide what
you think he was thinking and feeling, and then describe it in detail. Use specific references to the background
given on the photograph. You should have
at least five references to the picture and its historical content. Make the letter look authentic.
