About Grafton High School
Grafton High School opened its doors for the first time on September 3, 1996. It is located on the left hand side of the Grafton School Complex which houses both Grafton High and Grafton Middle School. The building's physical plant contains three sections - a 1,000-student capacity middle school, a 1,300-student capacity high school, and shared core facilities. Communal spaces such as the auditorium, Kiva, gymnasiums, central kitchen, parking lots, and athletic fields saved the taxpayers of York County approximately $4 million in construction costs! The two schools share central clinic and media facilities with separate high school and middle school areas. The $25 million project was designed from the ground up to incorporate modern technological innovations. Classrooms contain televisions, public address/telephone intercom systems, digital clocks, chalk-less white boards, and access to an integrated media retrieval system for laser disks, video cassettes, and CD ROMS. This facility was designed to optimize learning opportunities for both students and staff.
Refurbishment of Grafton High School
Grafton has just completed a major technology overhaul. The classrooms and the general-use labs have all be gotten new computers and peripherals. In August nearly $1,000,000 worth of desktop and notebook computers were purchased for this project. York County has also purchasing podium height mobile carts to be used as the teacher station equipped with a laptop and port replicator, a video cam, a VCR, an ink link for making digital notes for the students, a 6 port hub, connection to cable television, and a color printer. The carts are called iStations and are found in every classroom and lab. In addition, each classroom has received a ceiling mounted projector and large 7' screen for projecting multimedia lessons. Teachers also have the capability to create high tech presentations to enhance student learning.
Grafton also has two wireless mobile labs each with 20 laptops in addition to the three general use labs. The county is using these computers to acheive their goal of a ratio of one computer for every five students. The new computers are much quicker processing the high demands of education. As we move forward with technology our students become better and better able to meet the demands of world's work force. The completion of this project was completed in the Summer of 2005.
