R.A.F.T. Format Rubric
Letters - Will require an envelope, a unique letter head/stationary
border, and a minimum of 250 words to include addresses, greetings and
closings. (Letters should be contained on one standard 8x11 sheet of paper.)
Journals - Will require a cover/binding, a title page
and at least 4 entries that will include a graphic of described
plant/animal and a map showing the location/habitat of said species.
Brochures - Should include at least 5 graphics, cover,
product description with illustration if necessary for understanding, product
strengths and a short paragraph on the inventor, purpose, intended use and
persuasive reasons for use. Brochures should have a letter of
explanation in which inventor will introduce herself/himself, outline
reason for contacting the person/business, highlight of one
outstanding feature of the product and how specifically it could assist the
person/business to which they are contacting.
Letter to the Editor - Will require a series of 3 letters to the editor
and responses from community members and editor. Letters should
be laid out in newspaper format and can be three different dates for
clarity and conversation.
Dialogue - Will require a minimum
of 150 words. Students should be careful to use conversation
points that would be pertinent to the topic of immigration, pertain to the
country from which persons/families immigrated from and can use colloquial
language and speech patterns as they see necessary to their character. For
poster board the different characters should be highlighted/colored in
different ink in order to demonstrate conversational flow. In addition to
the conversation, students should provide a brief background of at least 50
words per character as to who they are, where they came from and a description
and location of their tenement home in
Speeches - Persuasive speeches should be no shorter than
250 words and should use the proper persuasive speech guidelines as mapped out
in this resource.
