and

Mrs. Vick, Assistant

Two knights in armor

Open library hours for students are

8:30 to 8:45
11:45 to 12:30
3:00 to 3:10

Students at Grafton Bethel Elementary School visit the library weekly with their class for 45 minutes. During that time, they choose books, learn library skills and are exposed to a wide variety of literature. Students participate in The Virginia Young Readers Contest, Battle of the Books, and National Children’s Book Week. Read on to learn more about what goes on at the library.

Battle of the Books

The Battle of the Books Club is open to any interested fourth or fifth grade students. Permission slips with meeting dates and book lists may be picked up in the library from Mrs. Rosensteel. The books may be checked out from the GBE library or the public library.

County Battle of the Books

Accelerated Reader

Students in grades one through five are encouraged to use their library time for selection of AR books. The language arts teacher assigns reading levels and students are moved to new levels as they show progress on AR tests.  Most of the books in the library collection are part of the the AR program, and students may use the library computers to take their AR tests.

Volunteers in the library

Volunteers are a big part of the library program. Each week, parents, grandparents, students and others help out by re-shelving books, dusting, straightening and shelf reading. If you would like to help, please contact the librarian, Mrs. Rosensteel. Your help will be greatly appreciated!

Take time to read with your children

  •  make reading time an enjoyable time

  • set aside a special time and place for reading

  • choose books you like

  • answer your child’s questions while reading

  • vary what you read (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, fantasy)
