"Mrs. Rosensteel"

Welcome to the GBE Library Castle

Mrs. Rosensteel, Librarian

Mrs. Vick, Assistant

Battle of the Books

The Battle of the Books Club will resume soon, and is open to any interested fourth and fifth grade students. If anyone wants to start reading the books now, they can go to the public library and get the list and most of the books in the children’s room.

Open library hours for students are

8:30 to 8:45

and 11:35 to 12:30

Students at Grafton Bethel Elementary School visit the library weekly with their class for 45 minutes. During that time, they choose books, learn library skills and are exposed to a wide variety of literature. Students participate in The Virginia Young Readers Contest, Battle of the Books, and National Children’s Book Week. Read on to learn more about what goes on at the library.

ACCELERATED READER AND BOOK CHECK OUT

Students in grades one through five are encouraged to use their library time for selection of AR books. The language arts teacher assigns reading levels and students are moved to new levels as they show progress on AR tests.

Parents, please note: Advantage Learning Systems, Inc., the parent company of Accelerated Reader, has changed many of the reading levels of their books. All books in our Easy and Fiction sections have been relabeled. New reading levels for 2004-05 are now on our website. Books are listed on our site by reading level.

Volunteers

Volunteers are a big part of the library program. Each week, parents, grandparents, students and others help out by re-shelving books, dusting, straightening and shelf reading. If you would like to help, please contact the librarian, Mrs. Rosensteel.

Take time to read with your children

  •  make reading time an enjoyable time

  • set aside a special time and place for reading

  • choose books you like

  • answer your child’s questions while reading

  • vary what you read (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, fantasy)
