Attention Students and Parents:

 WHRO’s 14th Annual Reading Rainbow
Young Writers & Illustrators Contest

The 14th Annual WHRO Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest is under way. The contest is open to Kindergarten through Fifth grade students. Winners in grades K-3 will compete nationally and grades 4-5 will compete locally. Winners receive a savings bond. We invite you to encourage your children to enter.

Only one entry per person will be accepted and only single author stories qualify. Stories can be fact or fiction, prose or poetry. The entries will be judged on originality, creative expression, storytelling and integration of copy and illustrations.

The Official Contest Rules and Entry Form, more details, and archives of past winners are now online at:  http://www.whro.org/readingrainbow.

For your convenience you can also download the entry form and contest rules here.

“The Grafton Bethel SCA recently filled coffee mugs with holiday cheer for the Salvation Army Volunteer Bell Ringers. Each student filled a large mug that they decorated and then delivered to an area Bell Ringer. It was the SCA’s way of helping the people who help so many others on the Peninsula.”

Lego State Competition
Here is a photo from our recent Lego State Competition at JMU in December. The team, coached by Carol Bauer, received a second place trophy for their Research Presentation and Skit on the Energy Audit that they did of their school.
