Art

The art experience at Coventry is one of exploration and wonder. Each grade level is introduced to a large variety of art mediums. Students learn how to use different types of paint, markers, pastels, and inks. They are introduced to an assortment of materials uses and techniques building the students self-expression and self-confidence. At each grade level skill development in cutting, pasting, originality, and self-confidence are nurtured. Students are taught to compare and contrast works of Art. They are also involved in learning technical skills and an Art vocabulary within each art activity. Traditional principals of Art such as balance , contrast, and unity are introduced as well as the elements of Art such as line, shape, color, space and texture. A wonderful creative world awaits students at CES!!

Physical Education

Physical Education at Coventry is fun for all the children. I would like to pass on to the students my enthusiasm for all types of physical activity. In this process I will prepare them to do well on their fitness tests in third fourth and fifth grade. Please make sure your child wears or brings tennis shoes on the days they have Physical Education! Lifelong fitness is something that I hope the children at Coventry will take with them when the move on.

Library

Click here to go to the Librarian's Website!

Students visit the library once a week. During this time they learn library and research skills and enjoy age appropriate children's literature. Throughout the year, teachers and the librarian collaborate on units of instruction to support the curriculum. In addition to their regularly scheduled class time, students are encouraged to visit the library before school (8:30-8:50) to exchange books.

Our collection includes more than 12,000 items including books, videos, cassette tapes and laser disks. Students are able to use the ten library computers to access software programs including the electronic card catalog, electronic research databases, and the Internet, which is filtered using I-Gear software. All computer programs are available throughout the school.

Music Program

Welcome to Music at Coventry!

Your child's music education will consist of a variety of musical experiences. Children will sing traditional American Folk songs, with a special emphasis on Patriotic Songs, Show Tunes, and International Songs in different Languages. The songs are chosen to compliment the skills emphasized in the SOL's for Music Education established by the State of Virginia. In addition to singing, music theory and music appreciation (with a special emphasis on classical composers), playing instruments and movement are also taught. All children are given an opportunity to demonstrate these skills in a culminating activity/choral program at each grade level.

Reading Specialist

Click here to go to the Reading Specialist's Website!

The reading specialist assists students by helping them develop reading skills that enable them to meet the Virginia English Standards of Learning objectives, to participate in society as literate citizens, and to acquire a lifelong love of reading. The reading specialist serves as a part of the school-wide language arts team which maintains and implements a successful language arts program and models and promotes the use of the best instructional and assessment practices to ensure successful student performance.
