Our Third Grade Teachers

During 3rd Quarter,3rd grade we will be studying:

Reading - We continue to use our Scott Foresman reading series this quarter. We have just finished studying Famous Americans. In the coming weeks we will begin reading about different tall tale characters, such as Slue Foot Sue and Johnny Appleseed. The students will also be reading independently throughout the school day. Please encourage your child to choose Accelerated Reader books in our library. The program is very useful in developing comprehension.

Language - In language we are still using our weekly spelling words. These words go home on Monday, and the students will be tested on Friday. Additionally, we will be producing some writing samples. We will focus on descriptive paragraphs, friendly letters, and narrative stories. This quarter we will also spend time learning about plurals, singular possessives, and contractions to name a few. We will also be practicing our cursive handwriting during language time

Social Studies - We will begin studying government and civics this quarter. Please continue to use your social studies notebook and SOL study materials to review content taught in class.

Science - This quarter we will be studying soil, energy and simple machines.

Please make sure that your child devotes 10-15 minutes each night to studying for the SOL test.  Your child may study the packets that we included in the SOL folder or your child may get online and study using some of the different websites such as SOL Pass.
