What is a Paraeducator?

• With a greater emphasis on education, there has been a national movement toward the certification of assistants working in the classroom, especially those working in Special Education.  Our paraeducators have done a wonderful job in taking on the responsibility to acquire this additional certification to meet the needs of our students with disabilities.  

• Our paraeducators work within the general education setting to make sure that our students with special needs are being appropriately educated in their inclusion setting. 

• Some of the services they perform are

• Supporting instruction

• Tutoring and supervision of individual students or small groups of students

• Assisting with classroom management and monitoring of student behavior
