Children's & Adult Art Classes

            Welcome to the ART ROOM!

I’m Gina Neil, the art specialist here at BME where I have the privilege of guiding your child through hands on experiences that encourage creativity and dexterity.

My art program is geared towards enhancing your child’s knowledge of art as it relates to subjects learned in their classroom.  I plan with every grade level including pre-school for that purpose.

Every child has an art folder where unfinished art projects are stored in our spacious art room.  I hope you have had at least one art project come home and have displayed it in your home or office.

Also, I encourage you to come by and visit us creating art and if you would like to volunteer an hour with your child in art class please feel free to contact me at 865-3046.  I especially welcome extra helping hands in Kindergarten classes!

I hope you have enjoyed the artwork that your child has brought home and will treasure their pieces!

Pre-School & Kindergarten

The Pre-Schoolers and Kindergarteners continue to amaze me with their artwork.  Each week when they learn a different letter of the alphabet, we will make artwork that represents that letter or sound.   I hope they enjoy their art resource time.  If you would like to come and visit, kindergarten art time is 9:00-9:40.  Come see what they can do!

1st Grade

The first graders will be honing their art skills creating pictures about circus animals, paper folded origami dogs, Chinese dragons, paper kites, Lincoln log cabin paintings and spring blossoms.

2nd Grade

This year we will explore art from ancient Egypt and China, create beautiful kites and create magical etch a sketch art using Scratch Art Paper.

3rd Grade

In third grade we will paint a seascape with three-dimensional sails that reflect their study of early explorers.  We may also paint dragons to celebrate Chinese New Year, construct kites, and simulate stained glass .

4th Grade

Some of the things we may do this year are create kites, learn about positive and negative space in their art works, make some Japanese paper foldings, paper stained glass designs and touch upon several Colonial Crafts used in their study of Virginia history.

5th Grade

We will be working with clay this year having students try sculpture in the form of animals and pottery.    We will also be using watercolor and ink to create a sunset silhouette look and will be having students create artwork on the computer here at school.

My art room is a busy place and I can always use an extra set of helping hands in any grade, any time.
Please consider coming to visit during your child's art class or any time.
