Expectations
Listed below are the
skills that should be
mastered by the end of Kindergarten. We will be teaching and practicing
these basic skills throughout the year in school. This information is
being provided for those parents who wish to provide additional
practice and support at home which is always beneficial to the students.
- writing
first name, last name and stating address

stating phone number and stating birthday

saying the days of the week and saying the months of the year

identifying body parts (ankle, wrist, heel, waist are always
the most difficult)

color identification and naming shapes

counting 1 – 100 and counting backwards from 10

counting by 10s to 100 and counting by 5s to 100

numeral recognition 0 – 20 and writing numerals 0
– 20
-
identify and extend patterns and naming coins & values

upper and lower case letter recognition and writing the
letters of the alphabet

identifying the sound of each letter and these blends; th,
sh, ch, and wh
-
tracking (finger under word as it is read), recognizing and
generating rhyming words

identify what the author/illustrator does
- tell
time to the hour using digital and analog clocks
- add
coins to a sum of 10 cents
- add
and subtract with 10 concrete items

Word recognition:

Students
will be placed according to skill levels for
reading groups.
This will allow for
differentiated instruction ie: letter identification, sound
association, sight
word acquisition, and/or beginning reading and comprehension
strategies.
