I have been a teacher of English at Bruton High School
since 1994. I am also the freshman class sponsor and head cross country
coach of both boys and girls.

Course
Description: This course is
an opportunity for students to improve oral and written communication
through a variety of activities.
The
following skills will be covered: listening and speaking, spelling and
vocabulary, grammar and composition. This is integrated with a study of
literary analysis and technical forms.
Competencies: Upon
completion of this course, you will be better able to do the following :
present and critique dramatic readings of
literary selections, develop
proficiency in making planned oral
presentations, read and analyze a variety of literature, dramatic
selections and other print materials
and develop and complete
a research project.
Course
Requirements: Students
are required to bring all
(textbook, loose leaf notebook with five dividers, pens, pencils)
necessary
materials to class daily; homework and in-class assignments must be
completed
in a timely manner; absent students are required to request and make up
missed
assignments.
Backpacks
are not allowed in the classroom.
Attendance Policy:
To comply with
Virginia Law, students are expected to attend school every day and
to be
on time unless there is illness or death in the immediate family.
Class Procedures:
Students
are responsible for completing all assignments when they are assigned.
Late
work is not accepted unless the student has been absent.
It
is the responsibility of the
student to request missed
assignments.
Students
are to be seated in assigned seats and ready to work when the bell
rings.
Personal
business is conducted before class. This includes errands
and/or
bathroom breaks other than emergencies.
Dismissal is by the teacher, not the bell.
