The Clinic
Announcements:
Screening-The state of Virginia mandates that all new students and 10th grade students have vision and hearing screenings and recommends that all 9th grade students have a scoliosis (spinal) screening. All other students may be screened with a written parental request. The purpose of screening is not to diagnose, but to identify those students in need of further evaluation. Referrals and follow-ups are part of the screening program.
Information on Medication(s): Many students require medication during the school day, either routinely or on an as-needed basis. The following guidelines must be followed:
- All medication must be kept in the clinic (exceptions are made for asthma inhalers and epipens with appropriate paperwork).
- Written parental permission is required. (a form must be completed)
- All medication must be in the original, properly labeled container.
Immunizations Requirements: The state of Virginia mandates minimum immunization for school attendance. In addition, certain vaccines are recommended for all adolescents. They are: Hepatitis B (2 or 3 dose series), Td (Tetanus/diptheria booster every 10 years), Varicella vaccine if your child has not had chicken pox. Contact the school clinic for more information and/or discuss adolescent vaccines with your health care provider. Each spring, booster shots and the meningitis vaccine are offered in the school clinic to seniors by the Peninsula Health Department.
Annual Health Update Card: It is important to keep information on your child's health card current. This includes any acute/chronic health conditions, medications and the names and telephone numbers of emergency contacts. Parents of ninth graders and all new students are asked to complete a new update card. All other parents are asked to contact the clinic with any updates. Please call 220-4091 or email gconradi@ycsd.york.va.us.
