Student Performance on SOL Tests Continues to Improve

For the seventh consecutive year, all 19 York County School Division schools earned the state's highest accreditation rating based on student performance on the 2009 Standards of Learning exams.

Notable accomplishments include:

  • All elementary schools have a pass rate of 91 or higher in math and 90 or higher in grade 4 history
  • Waller Mill Elementary improved their English pass rate by 5 percentage points, their math pass rate by 7 percentage points and their science pass rate by 16 percentage points
  • Dare, Grafton Bethel and Tabb elementary schools improved their grade 4 history scores by 6 or more percentage points and Seaford Elementary improved their grade 3 science pass rate by 7 percentage points
  • Middle school math pass rates increased at three of the division's four middle schools
  • Reading 11 pass rates increased at each of the division's five high schools
  • Division-wide End-of-Course pass rates improved in English: Writing 11, Reading 11, Algebra I, Algebra II, Biology, Chemistry, World History I, World History II and VA & US History
