The York County School Division's approved operating budget includes an athletics participation fee of $50 per student, per season for middle school sports and $60 per student, per season for high school sports. Athletics participation fees for middle school students will be no more than $100 per year; for high school students the maximum per year is $120. Students who participate in sports in all three seasons will not be charged for the third season. Fees collected by the division will be used to defray the cost of equipment, supplies, officials, transportation costs, and Virginia High School League membership fees.
Athletes who try out and become an official team member will be required to pay the participation fee prior to the first official contest in order to be eligible to compete. There is no relationship between athletics fees and a guarantee of student playing time. Playing time for athletes is at the sole discretion of the head coach and his/her staff. The athletics participation fee is non-refundable.
The fee will be waived for students who qualify for free or reduced price meals.
