Middle School Math

Math Works 8 A&B
This course provides an opportunity for students to receive additional instruction in math. The course focuses on giving students additional help with specific math Standards of Learning. This course is a required year-long course for some students.
Math 8
This course is designed to build a strong foundation in problem solving and mathematical concepts. The course addresses all of the 8th grade math Standards of Learning with emphasis on number and number sense, computation and estimation, and measurement.
Pre-Algebra
This course is designed to provide a preliminary study of the concepts of algebra and strengthen students' skills in problem solving and mathematical concepts. The course addresses the Standards of Learning for middle school math courses in the areas of number sense, computation, estimation, measurement, geometry, probability, statistics, patterns, functions, and algebra.

High School Math

Algebra I
This course is a study of the algebraic concepts needed to solve algebraic equations. Students use algebra as a tool for representing and solving a variety of practical problems. Tables and graphs are used to interpret algebraic expressions, equations, and inequalities and to analyze functions. Matrices are used to organize and manipulate data. Students make connections and build relationships among algebra and arithmetic, geometry, and probability and statistics.
Algebra I Part IA
This course is a study of applied basic algebraic concepts needed to solve algebraic equations. It is intended to provide algebra reinforcement at a modified pace.
Algebra I Part IB
This course is a study of applied basic algebraic concepts needed to solve algebraic equations. It is intended to provide algebra reinforcement at a modified pace.
Algebra I Part 2A
This course is a continuation of the applied basic algebraic concepts presented in Algebra I, Part 1. Students who study the two-part Algebra I sequence will take the Algebra I SOL Test at the completion of Algebra I, Part 2.
Algebra I Part 2B
This course is a continuation of the applied basic algebraic concepts presented in Algebra I, Part 1. Students who study the two-part Algebra I sequence will take the Algebra I SOL Test at the completion of Algebra I, Part 2.
Algebra II
The content of this course provides a thorough treatment of advanced algebraic concepts through the study of functions, polynomials, rational expressions, complex numbers, matrices, and sequences and series. Emphasis is placed on practical applications and modeling throughout the course of study. In addition, the course includes a transformational approach to graphing functions.
Geometry
The content of this course offers a study of plane, three-dimensional, and coordinate geometry. Methods of justification of theorems include paragraph proofs, flow charts, two-column proofs, indirect proofs, coordinate proofs, and verbal arguments. The course emphasizes two- and three-dimensional reasoning skills, coordinate and transformational geometry, and the use of geometric models to solve problems.
Geometry, Part 1A
This course is a study of basic geometric concepts. It is intended to provide geometry reinforcement at a modified pace.
Geometry, Part 1B
This course is a study of basic geometric concepts. It is intended to provide geometry reinforcement at a modified pace.
Geometry, Part 2A
This course is a continuation of the basic geometric concepts presented in Geometry, Part 1. Students who study the two-part Geometry sequence will take the Geometry SOL Test at the completion of Geometry, Part 2.
Geometry, Part 2B
This course is a continuation of the basic geometric concepts presented in Geometry, Part 1. Students who study the two-part Geometry sequence will take the Geometry SOL Test at the completion of Geometry, Part 2
Math Algebra Concepts
This course is designed to build a strong foundation in problem solving and mathematical concepts. The course addresses all of the 8th grade math Standards of Learning with emphasis on number and number sense, computation and estimation, and measurement.
Mathematical Analysis
This course extends students' knowledge of function characteristics and introduces them to another mode of mathematical reasoning. Students enrolled in Mathematical Analysis are assumed to have mastered Algebra II concepts and have some exposure to trigonometry. The content of this course serves as appropriate preparation for a calculus course. Graphing calculators of computer graphing simulators are used.
Practical Math
This course is designed to build a strong foundation in problem solving and mathematical concepts. The course addresses all of the 8th grade math Standards of Learning with emphasis on number and number sense, computation and estimation, and measurement.
