Webpage Elements to Consider
  • Title and Topic –clearly listed?
  • Audience – Identifiable at a glance?
  • Introduction/Instruction provided?
  • Handouts – listed with clear title and dates to avoid confusion.
  • Are the assignments attached current?
  • Readability (i.e. layout, color, ease of navigation, font, distractiblity)
  • Is there Contact Information given?

Strive for a clean font style for maximum readability.


  • Mixed case is easier to read THAN ALL UPPER CASE.
  • A san-serif font is easier to read than a serif font. Plain text is easier to read than italicized text.
  • Examples of serif fonts are Times New Roman and Courier New.
  • Popular sans-serif fonts are Arial and Verdana.

  • Be aware of your font size.

  • It is possible to check the readability level using Microsoft Word.

You can’t judge a webpage by its front page!

Who Owns the Site?
  • Visit the website www.easywhois.com
  • In the search box labeled Domain name type in your URL
  • Click next.
  • You will be asked to enter a provided random number into a box. Type in the number and click next.
  • Whois? tells you the dates this site was created, specific contact names and addresses at which the organization is based.

Who links to you?
  • To find the external links, conduct this search in Click the Find button. with the link: command.
  • Go to Alta Vista www.altavista.com, type link: in the search box and then add the URL of the site you would like research.
  • Click the Find button.
