HOMEBOUND INSTRUCTION GUIDELINES |
ELIGIBILITY: A student with mental retardation will not be placed on homebound unless there is a concomitant physical or medical reason for such instruction. A student with emotional disorders may be placed on homebound for only short durations. However, information on the application must be furnished by a physician, psychiatrist or licensed psychologist working with the child in a clinical setting or from records of a Mental Health/Hygiene Clinic. In addition to the application, a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist must provide an outline of the treatment plan as well as the plan to return the student to school or to place the student in a more appropriate setting. PROCEDURE: *Homebound instruction will not begin until the Homebound Application and other appropriate information are received and approved by the Associate Director of Student Services Each school will be responsible for notifying parent(s) of approval and obtaining the Alternate Site teacher for student. A copy of the approval letter will be returned to the Associate Director of Student Services with the name of the Alternate Site teacher assigned and the number of instructional hours per week appropriate for student. The Coordinator of Online Learning will assign virtual teachers for a student who is assigned to the Virtual High School. Alternate Site and Virtual High School teachers will be responsible for coordinating homebound instruction with school instruction. Teachers should also provide the school with reports of skills introduced or mastered while on homebound. Alternate Site teachers will receive an hourly rate for instruction as per operating budget. Virtual High School teachers will receive a set fee for instruction as per operating budget. Alternate Site teacher and parent(s) will establish hours for instruction to take place in the home. However, no teacher, or other Division employee, will be paid for instructing students during school hours. (The Associate Director of Student Services may confirm instructional hours with parents.) An elementary student on homebound will be instructed only in the basic academic classes only—reading, language arts, math. A secondary student on homebound will be instructed only in English, math, social studies and science. A student placed on homebound should be carried in the daily register of the school provided he/she receive instruction for the allotted hours per week. Homebound logs I-GU-25.pdf and time sheets O-FI-12.doc must be forwarded for payment by the 28th of each month to the Office of Student Services for payment by the 10th of the following month. Please note on time sheet if homebound instruction is continuing or has terminated and circle Homebound for services provided to student. Student Contracts I-GU-24.pdf must be signed by both parent and student during the initial visit and the original contract submitted to the principal with a copy sent to the Office of Student Services. Travel time to/from home of students should not be included on time sheets. Hours of instruction should include only direct contact with students
