Advanced Placement
United States Government and Politics
Virginia and United
States Government
AP U.S. Government and Virginia and U.S. Government are
both designed to prepare students to become productive and informed
citizens. During the course of the year, students will be exposed
to units which cover the institutions of government including Congress,
the executive branch and the federal court system. In addition,
students will learn about the political process including voter
behavior, political parties, interest groups and the role of the
media. In order to encourage students to actively participate in
the American political process, both of these courses also include
instruction on their civil liberties and civil rights.
